Valley Christian and Lourdes Academy each pushed its No. 1 doubles teams through to sectionals at the WIAA Division 2 St. Mary Central sub-sectional held Monday.
The Knights’ No. 3 singles player Adam Trofka also advanced to sectionals, which will be played Thursday at SportsCore in Kohler.
Lourdes’ top tandem of Gavin Galazka and Evan Enders improved to 6-0 as a pairing this season, but needed to put in some extra work to advance.
Galazka and Enders dropped their first set against a Newman Catholic pair before storming back to win 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.
The Warriors’ duo of Jeremy and Evan Williams also won its only match to advance, upping their season record to 7-2 on the season.
Trofka was the lone local singles player to move on posting a pair of wins on the day. The sophomore topped Valley Christian’s Ryan Van Maanen 6-3, 6-0 in the first round before outlasting top-seeded Johnathon Niemeyer of Xavier 0-6, 6-4, 6-0.
Matt DeNure at No. 2 singles and Tony Posorzke at No. 4 singles each won their first-round matches for Lourdes, but fell short of advancing to sectionals.
Xavier finished first in the sub-sectional with 20 points to lead the team standings. Lourdes was fourth with 10 points, while Valley Christian finished with four points.
