Trey Ball wins state baseball player of the year

New Castle graduate Trey Ball has been selected as Indiana Baseball Player of the Year by the Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association. Members of Ball’s family accepted the award on his behalf on Friday night at a banquet in Crawfordsville, Ind.
Ball went 6-0 with a 0.76 ERA for New Castle in the spring, while also batting .330 with 10 home runs and 29 RBIs. He was previously named the Gatorade Indiana Baseball Player of the Year and the USA Today High School Player of the Year.
Ball was unable to accept Friday’s award in person because he has begun his professional career with the Boston Red Sox’s Rookie affiliate in Fort Myers, Fla. He was selected No. 7 overall by the Red Sox in last month’s Major League Baseball Draft.
