Omar Sims sparked Newberry’s potent rushing offense with 207 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries as the Bulldogs topped Carolina 36-14 in a Class AA Division I first-round playoff game Friday.
R.J. Rosemond completed 13 of 28 passes for 263 yards and two touchdowns for Carolina, which ended its season with a 4-7 record.
Rosemond connected with Zykiesis Cannon for a 73-yard touchdown that tied the score 7-7 in the first quarter, then tossed a six-yard touchdown to Blake Tolbert that pulled the Trojans within 21-14 in the third quarter.
But Newberry, which amassed 391 yards rushing, responded with 15 unanswered points to pull away in the fourth quarter.
Cannon had six receptions for 150 yards for Carolina.
