A trio of locals opened the first of two rounds of play at the Class 2A state golf play at Mission Inn Resort & Club in Howey-in-the-Hills.

Gateway’s Blake Lolato had the best round, shooting 8-over par 80 to sit in a tie for 21st, while Ida Baker’s Ross Lally finished 11-over par 83 to tie for 35th.

Cape Coral’s Brooke Ciccone is tied for 68th in the girls draw after shooting a 27-over par 99.

Volleyball

Region 2A-4: SFCA swept Marco Island in the 2A-4 quarterfinals 25-15, 25-16, 25-20.

Ally Frith led the Kings with nine kills, and Lauren Johnson added eight kills.

Region 5A-4: DeSoto ended Cypress Lake’s season with a 25-10, 25-10, 25-13 victory.

Cypress Lake finished the season 15-11. Haley Von Harten finished her senior season with 373 kills.

Boys soccer

Mariner in the Fort Myers Jamboree Classic

Mariner 1, Barron Collier 1: Ray Gerke scored the lone goal for Mariner.

Mariner 2, North Fort Myers 0: Austin Turner and Jordan Burks were the standout players in this game, scoring a goal apiece.

Mariner 1, Port Charlotte 0: Erick Rivera scored for the Tritons.

Mariner 1 Estero 0: Erick Rivera scored the single goal to secure the win.

Girls soccer

Clewiston 8, Moore Haven 0: Kelsey Allison led the way for the Tigers (2-0) with a hat trick and teammate Kaci Pittman scored two goals.
