The Regina baseball team beat West Branch 9-1 in the Cedar Valley Conference semifinals Tuesday in Iowa City.
Jake Brinkman had a big night for the Regals, putting up two hits, a home run and six RBIs. The sophomore also got the win on the mound, giving up four hits and striking out five. Riley Dixon had two hits and two RBIs for Regina, while Mark Ward and Payton Raso each added two hits.
“The pitching today was so good and so was the defense behind the pitcher, and the hitting was strong too,” Regina coach Andy Gahan said. “Things went well for us tonight in all aspects.”
Regina will take on Wilton in the CVC championship game today.

* SOLON 9, WASHINGTON 3: The Spartans picked up their 23rd win of the season in Washington.
Mitch Silberstein (5-2) earned the win, giving up five hits and striking out four. Todd Oberthien hit 3-for-5 with a double, and Tim Lance hit 2-for-3 with a double.
Solon (23-10) will hit the road to take on Independence in a doubleheader at 5:30 p.m. today in Independence.
* LONE TREE 9, WEST BURLINGTON 6: The Lions jumped out to an 8-0 lead after the first inning and held on to beat the Falcons in Lone Tree.
Andy Dodson picked up the win on the mound and hit 2-for-3 with a double at the plate. Jordan Quigley went 2-for-3.
Lone Tree (15-9) finishes its regular season today at North Mahaska.
* HIGHLAND 11, NEW LONDON 5: The Huskies broke a 5-5 tie with six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning in Riverside.
Jessie Hootman had a grand grand slam for Highland, Derrick Stewart hit 3-for-3 with two singles, a double and two runs, Talon McFarland hit 2-for-4 with two runs, and Jacob Wilson pitched a complete game with seven hits, no walks and seven strikeouts.
* SOLON 10-4, MOUNT VERNON 3-8: Todd Oberthien pitched in relief and struck out nine in the first game. Elijah Kane hit 3-for-5 while Austin Holub was 2-for-2 with a double and four RBIs.
Solon lost the second game 8-4.
