Class 3A third-ranked Mid-Prairie crushed Columbus 17-1 in three innings in a Class 3A regional quarterfinal game Tuesday in Kalona.

Olivia Lugar earned the win. Maddie Kaalberg hit 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs. Felicia Schulty hit 2-for-3 with four RBIs, while Amber Kral hit 3-for-3.

Mid-Prairie (28-10) will host Mount Vernon at 7 p.m. in regional semifinal game Friday in Kalona.

Class 2A

* NORTHEAST 4, WEST LIBERTY 1: The Rebels out-hit the Comets in a first round regional game in Goose Lake.

Merideth Nichols had two hits and one run for West Liberty, while Hailey Daufeldt had a hit and an RBI. Audra Bridenstine added three hits. Shelby Martin gave up three earned runs and struck out nine in the loss.

West Liberty finished 14-16.


* HIGHLAND: The Class 2A fourth-ranked Huskies won two game at the Alburnett Classic over the weekend.

Highland crushed Clayton Ridge 15-0 in the first game. Katie Springer pitched a one-hitter and struck out three. At the plate, Jordan Rath hit 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs for Highland. Kassie Vazquez and Paige Wieland each added two RBIs.

The Huskies edged Alburnett 6-4 in game two. Springer earned the win, giving up six hits and striking out five. Kelsey Hora had two RBIs, while Rath and Cheyann Adamson each had RBIs.

Highland (30-3) will host Cardinal in a Class 2A regional quarterfinal game at 7 p.m. in Riverside.
