WASHINGTON (WUSA 9) — Maryland Delegate Jay Walker (D) tells WUSA 9 Sports anchor, Dave Owens, that the state house measure requiring the Board of Education to install turf fields in Prince George’s County public high schools (MD HB 1108) by the end of 2018, has stalled in the Appropriations Committee.
The measure, which planned to use public open space money to install synthetic turf fields at all Prince George’s County Public High Schools by December 31, 2018, originally passed through the County Delegation by a vote of 21-2.
But the House Appropriations Sub-Committee has tabled the legislation.
“It’s disappointing because it’s a safety issue,” says Walker. “Every county that touches our’s either has turf fields or are getting them and we don’t.”
