The quarterback/running back tandem of Breein Tyree and Matt Olivo combined for over 300 yards in offense and the St. Joseph High School football team defeared Perth Amboy, 42-3, Saturday.

Tyree had 151 total yards, and scored four touchdowns (3 rushing, 1 passing) for the Falcons while Olivio gained 162 yards rushing on only 10 carries, all in the first ha;f. Neither player entered the game in the second half.

“I just come out here everyday and try to lead the team as best as I can,” Tyree said. “Every day in practice we work harder and harder, coach always tells us practice wins games. We are looking forward to having an undefeated season, and going into the playoffs as a high seed.”

Olivio contributed with one offensive, and one defensive touchdown. He scored late in the first quarter on a 32-yard run and picked up a fumble early in the second quarter caused by the Falcons’ defensive line, and returned it five yards for a score.

“We had great energy,” Olivio said. “We are playing great right now. Everyone is blocking, everyone is tackling, everyone is just playing great.”

Late in the first quarter into the middle of the second, in just under five minutes, the Falcons scored four touchdowns to put the game away, giving little breathing room for the Panthers to muster up any comeback opportunity.

Falcons coach, Casey Ransone was very happy with his team’s performance.

“We were able to get a good push off the line of scrimmage today,” Ransone said. “We saw some things on film that we took advantage of. It doesn’t matter what you run, it came to our execution on any play that we ran today. Winning games isn’t about what you’re running, it’s about executing what you’re running. We did a good job of that today.”

The Falcons, now 5-0, have a home game against Howell next week.

“We are excited about it (5-0 record),” Ransone said. “My kids are smart enough to understand that each game we are 0-0. Our goal is to win every game each week, and we understand that we aren’t looking ahead over anybody.”
