The Shermans collected their first win, an nonleague blowout against the Falcons.
For a team that lost seven seniors from 2012, coach Mark Williamson said the first win of the season provided a good confidence boost to a young team.
Jenny Campbell had three goals and an assist. Lexi Maughner had two goals and an assist, Kaylah Peele netted two goals and led the team with two assists and Caleah Beatty also scored a goal.
Although the win was great, Williamson said he hopes to see his young defense improve.
“We’ll give up some goals,” Williamson said. “Hopefully by tournament time, we’ll shore up our defense. We can’t continue making those mistakes against the better teams. We have very athletic players, but they still need to develop their soccer skills a little more. They have to learn how to make good decisions and improve on foot skills.”
Williamson said he knows his young team will continue to improve and enjoys their willingness to learn and work hard.
