Height: 6-foot
Weight: 220 pounds

Athletic achievement: He led the Warriors (20-9) to the Class 3A state championship this past season. Gates posted a 6-4 record with one save, a 0.83 ERA, 114 strikeouts in 59 innings and threw three complete-game shutouts, including a pair of no-hitters. A 2013 Rawlings Preseason All-American and a 2012 First Team All-State selection, he also batted .446 with three home runs, 37 RBI and a .651 slugging percentage.

Academic excellence: Gates has maintained a 4.0 GPA and will graduate as the valedictorian of his class.

Exemplary character: Also an Eagle Scout and a devoted parishioner in his church community, he will take part in a service-mission trip on behalf of the Church of Latter Day Saints this summer.


“Riley Gates is a tremendous kid who I have immensely enjoyed coaching the last four years,” said Snow Canyon head coach Reed Secrist. “He’s been the go-to guy whenever we need a win. He will be sorely missed when he graduates this year.”

THE FUTURE: Gates has signed with BYU.
