THE WINNER: Malia Nawahine


School: Springville (Utah)
Grade: Senior
Position: Guard/forward
Height: 5-foot-10

Athletic achievement: Nawahine led the Red Devils to a 25-0 record and the Class 4A state championship this past season. She averaged 18.6 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 2.3 steals per game. A Deseret News and Salt Lake Tribune All-State first team selection, Nawahine was MVP of the Class 4A state tournament.

Academic excellence: Nawahine has maintained a 3.60 GPA.

Exemplary character: She has volunteered on behalf of food banks, a homeless shelter, the Special Olympics and youth sports programs.


“Nawahine has a unique ability to completely take over a game through working extremely hard,” said Camie Oakey, coach at Mountain View (Orem, Utah). “She’s relentless on the boards, cuts hard to the rim and knows how to use her body to finish against bigger opponents.” 

THE FUTURE: Nawahine has committed to Utah.
