1. St. Johnsbury (5-0): Vlad Cobzaru, who scored 29 points on 14 of 16 shooting in Thursday’s win over North Country, and the Hilltoppers have scored at least 70 points in three of their five wins. Last ranking: 1.
2. Rice Memorial (5-0): In an undefeated start, the Green Knights have limited their opponents to under 50 points in every game until their last, a 64-51 win over Rutland on Thursday night. It was Rice’s first game in 13 days. Last ranking: 2.
3. Vergennes (9-0): Motivation runs deep for the Commodores, who, playing in Spaulding’s Fran Pinard tournament, returned to Barre Auditorium for the first time since losing to MSJ in last year’s Division II final. Vergennes dialed up 87 points in a win over U-32, making 26 out of 29 two-point field goal attempts. Last ranking: 4.
4. Rutland (4-3): Rutland, which losses are to St. Johnsbury (twice) and Rice, continue its string of Metro opponents, traveling to face Burlington and Essex in the next week. Last ranking: 3.
5. Mount Mansfield (3-1): A surging Spaulding team and undefeated St. Johnsbury squad are up next for the Cougars, who, behind Nick Bergeron’s 26 points, pushed their winning streak to three games after topping CVU. Last ranking: 6.
6. Essex (4-1): An early deficit wasn’t enough for the Hornets to make up against Burlington on Thursday, dropping their first game of the season. Essex can rebound Saturday at North Country, which has hosted a couple shootouts this season already. Last ranking: 5.
7. Williamstown (6-0): Averaging 75.6 points per game, the Blue Devils are the last unbeaten team in Division III. Last ranking: 7.
8. Burr and Burton (5-0): BBA topped fellow Division II contender and rival Mount Anthony in its last two games. Last ranking: 8.
9. Champlain Valley (3-4): The Redhawks lost to MMU, but they have won three of four since the return of Brad Bissonette, including a victory over BFA-St. Albans. Last ranking: 10.
10. BFA-St. Albans (3-3): The Bobwhites have won three of four games since opening 0-2 (losses to St. Johnsbury, Essex). Last ranking: 9.
