LOCKPORT, N.Y.-Saturday six teams particpated in the annual Lockport scrimmage at Emmett Belknap middle school, including Grand Island.
Grand Island head coach Dean Santorio said “we get to face bigger schools than we are which gives us a good way to grade ourselves.”
The Vikings were 8-2 last season and there are high expectations for the Vikings as well this season. Coach Santorio told channel 2 sports that, “we’re looking to make the playoffs. Obviously the higher the seed the better, but we will worry about each step at a time when it gets here.”
Grand Island opens the season at Hamburg this year. The team understands that the first game of the season can set the tone for the whole year.
Senior Quarterback Quinn Corrao told channel 2 sports that he prepared a lot for the upcoming season. “I went to a few Quarterbacks camps; but I went to the Ralph and did seven on sevens with other teams.” He also told channel 2 that the, “goal is to get to the Ralph for sure, we have to take one game at a time though. We all know that, but we all are looking forward to Sweet home probably, that’s our game.”
