Vipers chip off victory in opener

Space Coast’s no-huddle offense proved to be too much for Harmony to handle as the Vipers raced their way to a 43-26 victory against the Longhorns on Friday night.

The Vipers opened the first half with 21 unanswered points before the Longhorns were able score a touchdown of their own midway through the second quarter, but by then Space Coast had already hit its stride, scoring three more times in an easy opening-week victory.

Space Coast’s senior quarterback, Nick Rittenhouse, had a huge game, gaining 278 total offensive yards and scoring three touchdowns.

He passed for 192 yards.

Alec Dansereau had six catches for 84 yards and a touchdown.

KEY PLAYERS: Space Coast quarterback Nick Rittenhouse was 17-for-29 for 192 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another 86 and a TD. Alec Dansereau had six catches for 84 yards and a touchdown.

THEY SAID IT: “This is one of those wins where we’ll enjoy it tonight, but get ready to go back to work tomorrow. This is not the same Space Coast team you saw a year ago. We play with a chip on our shoulder. People in this county are going to start to take notice of us,” Space Coast head coach Jake Owens said.

WHAT’S NEXT: Space Coast will travel to Eau Gallie on Friday night.

RECORDS: Space Coast 1-0, Harmony 0-1
