THE WINNER: Suli Dainkeh

School: South Lakes (Reston, Va.)
Grade: Senior
Position: Defensive midfielder
Height: 5-foot-11
Weight: 165 pounds

Athletic achievement: He led the Seahawks to a 12-1 record entering the Liberty District Tournament quarterfinals against Stone Bridge (Ashburn, Va.), scheduled for May 13. Dainkeh scored three goals and passed for one assist through 13 games and anchored a defense that allowed just six goals. A 2012 Washington Post First Team All-Met selection, he is a member of the U.S. Soccer Under-18 Men’s National Team and traveled to the Netherlands with the national team this past fall.

Academic excellence: Dainkeh has maintained a B average.

Exemplary character: He has volunteered locally as a youth mentor and soccer coach.

“Suli is about as good a player as I have seen at this level,” said Scott Racek, head coach of Edison (Alexandria, Va.). “His footwork is awesome, and most significantly he is a pure distributor of the ball. He doesn’t try to do too much but he can take over a game when he needs to. He makes everyone around him better.”

THE FUTURE: Dainkeh has signed with Maryland.
