The John Jay High School volleyball team heads into its second home match in as many days, today at 4:15 p.m. against Walter Panas, bolstered by the momentum of Thursday’s effort.
Wiccopee’s Patriots swept Lakeland, 25-10, 25-14, 25-4, to bolster their morale before today’s match.
“Coming off a win and going into another game, it’s always great for their confidence, and it’s good practice, too,” said coach Kalah Lipinski, whose Patriots bring a 4-1 record into today’s action. “I like it when we go one after the other.”
Megan Theiller led John Jay with 24 kills, 21 digs, seven service points, four assists and two aces. Chelsea Barberan added 23 digs, 20 points, four aces and four assists.
Rosa Angeles contributed 12 assists, four digs, two kills and two aces for the Patriots, who also got four kills, four points and two blocks from Halley Dewey.
“They had a lot of energy, and they went out and played really, really well,” Lipinski said. “They were talking to each other, running a lot of plays on offense. It was exciting to watch because it seemed like everyone was having a really good time today.”
