“It was a great match for us,” John Jay coach Kalah Lipinski said. “It was our Senior Night. We have six seniors and were able to play them all. They had such enthusiasm and were having a good time. It was an exciting match.”
Courtney Barbara tallied six digs, five points and 30 assists for the Patriots (17-1). Chelsea Barberan added 21 digs and 11 points.
Irina Alekseeva led Beacon with seven kills, five digs and three blocks. Leandra Echi tallied five kills, 10 digs and two blocks.
John Jay and Beacon (10-8) will learn their first opponents in the Section 1 tournament following today’s sectional seeding meeting. Outbracket matches begin on Thursday.
“I think we’re in a really good place going into sectionals,” Lipinski said. “We’ve worked so hard on our defense and mental game. We’re better prepared physically and mentally than last year to face the tough competition.”
