A couple of long dry spells ended Thursday at the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex cross country championships.

The Voorhees boys won their first county title since 1991 and the North Hunterdon girls won for the first time since 2002 at the Sussex County Fairgrounds.

In the boys’ race, Chris Thompson paced Voorhees with a third-place finish in 16:02 and teammate Anthony Capone crossed sixth in 16:25. The Vikings compiled 74 points, 15 better than defending champ Pope John XXIII.

North Hunterdon senior David Mugavero was the first local boy across the finish line, placing second in 15:58. Wallkill Valley’s Craig Corti broke the tape in 15:53.

In the girls’ race, North Hunterdon ended Voorhees’ 11-year reign at the top. The Lions got a gold-medal performance by junior Eve Glasergreen (18:05) and fine efforts by Cailyn Lavigne (second, 18:15), Sally Falk (seventh, 19:43) and Alyssa Higdon (10th, 19:47).
