Class C, Division IV
LAST SEASON: 9-1
Most of the players who led Waverly to the Section 4 Class C final are gone, leaving coach Jason Miller and his staff with a rebuilding project.
The line offers the most tested players, though Miller noted there is not much depth. Junior Jeff Klossner leads the way at center, having bulked up to 225 pounds. He will play inside linebacker on defense.
Mack Brown, also a junior, will start at offensive tackle and outside linebacker. Senior John Hallett is a guard and an outside linebacker.
Seniors Jordon Huck and Justin Dudash are two-way linemen. Tight end Tim Sutton, a 6-foot-3 senior, plays outside linebacker on defense.
Sophomore Peyton Miller, the coach’s son, takes over at quarterback.
Among the offensive backs are juniors Alex Volpe, Joe Peters, Brandon Bostwick and Zack Saxon; freshman Braden Rice and sophomore Josh Mastrantuono. Bostwick and Mastrantuono will also patrol the secondary on defense.
Senior fullback Ryan Wolcott provides size at 6-1, 220. He will also line up at defensive tackle with junior Joe Bennett.
Jason Miller said opponents can expect to see some three- and four-man receiver sets. Senior Ryan McFarland stands 6-4, and is joined by senior Dylan Perry, junior Zack Gingerich and sophomore DJ Meyers.
Senior Brandon Ellers, along with juniors Kendrick Wood and Brandon Anderson, handle the nose guard spot. Junior Mike Girolamo is an outside linebacker.
The team will play its home games this season at Athens High School.
