Waynesville High School graduate Dylan Newcomb is among 140 student athletes who were named Academic All-Americans by the National High School Coaches Association this week.

Newcomb was a football standout for coach Rick Vernon’s team and is headed to Washington University in St. Louis to play.

He had a 4.0 grade point average at Waynesville and scored a 30 on his ACT.

In addition, Neosho wrestler Nate Rodriguez, a three-time state champion, was named to the Wrestling USA Magazine High School Academic Team.

Rodriguez, who was one of 13 members nationally chosen for the team, is attending Ouachita Baptist University in Arkansas to wrestle and pursue his goal of becoming a doctor.
