Tuesday’s winter storm not only wreaked havoc with holiday travelers, but it also wiped out the local high school sports schedule for the evening.
All five Interscholastic Athletic Conference boys basketball games were postponed Tuesday, including Candor at Watkins Glen, Dryden at Groton, Marathon at Whitney Point, Moravia at Trumansburg and Odessa-Montour at Elmira Notre Dame. Only the Marathon-WP game had been rescheduled as of late Tuesday afternoon; it will be played Dec. 17.
Also postponed were four girls games, including Trumansburg at Clyde-Savannah, Watkins Glen at Candor, Lansing at Union Springs and Groton at Dryden. No make-up dates for any of those games were announced Tuesday.
Waverly 52, Newark Valley 50: On Monday at Waverly, the home team (1-1) built an eight-point after three quarters then held on to defeat the Cardinals (0-2). Alex Uhl had 13 points and Payton Miller 11 to lead the Wolverines. Brett Copes had a game-high 21 points for Newark Valley .
Waverly 57, Newark Valley 15: On Monday at Newark Valley, the visitors held NV to single-digit scoring in all four quarters en route to the 42-point victory. Reylyn Schwartzhoff led all scorers with 18 points for Waverly, while Hannah Luszczek had six points for the home team.
