GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. — In just his third season as a high school football head coach, Josh Hoekstra has guided his team from Clay High to an appearance in the Class 5A state championship game.
That championship game will take place on Friday at 1 PM against Plantation American Heritage at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando.
Although the Blue Devils won a district championship during the regular season, very few people expected them to get this far in the playoffs. With that said, during an apperance on First Coast News Sports Final this past Sunday night, Florida Times-Union high school sports editor Justin Barney said the Blue Devils are his surprise team of the year and Hoekstra is his coach of the year.
With so many great coaches on the First Coast, there might be some people that don’t know much about the up and coming Hoekstra. In the video clip above, the Blue Devils head football coach discusses his previous stops before landing in Green Cove Springs. He also talks about the coaches he’s learned from. Finally, his quarterback Wes Weeks gives his opinion of what makes Josh Hoekstra so successful.
