Wes-Del edged Burris 56-50 Thursday at Ball Gym. The Warriors (5-12, 4-3 Mid-Eastern Conference) had four different players score in double-digits, using a balanced attack to beat the Owls (8-11, 3-4 MEC.)
“Anytime you can win on the road, and particularly a conference game on the road, it’s an accomplishment,” Wes-Del coach Joel Roush said.
Justin Evans led Wes-Del with 19 points, while Sam Paul scored 11 points. Trevor Delaney and Desmond Wilson each scored 10 points.
The Warriors steadily built their lead through the first three quarters, pulling ahead 34-24 entering the fourth. The Owls more than doubled their scoring output for the day with 26 in the fourth quarter, but Wes-Del countered with 22 points of its own to stay ahead.
“It makes us hard to guard, we just got real timely baskets from all six guys who scored,” Roush said.
Mack Rathbun had a double-double for Burris, scoring 20 points and grabbing 15 rebounds. Jonney Norris was second on the Owls with nine points although he missed four 3-pointers and five free throws. Overall, Burris shot 35 percent from the field and 58 percent from the line.
