West Lafayette’s Bobbie Burgess won the 1A-3A girls 3,200 championship at Saturday’s Hoosier State Relays at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion.
That performance led West Lafayette to a third-place finish in the 1A-3A team standings at the unofficial indoor state meet.
Burgess, who finished second last season, won in 11:01.51 and beat the runner up by more than 21 seconds. Twin Lakes’ Madeline Lilly finished fourth in 11:41.28.
Burgess also helped West Lafayette’s distance medley relay team to a runner-up finish in 12:33.66. She teamed with Kristen Johnson, Susan Hubbard and Lauren Johnson, and those three runners teamed with Delaney Barber to finish second in the 3,200 relay in 9:48.51.
Also in 1A-3A girls, Carroll’s Bailey Worl tied for fourth in the high jump (5 feet, 2 inches), Tri-County’s Alisha Bahler was fourth in the shot put (37-23/4), Clinton Prairie’s Abby Clark took seventh in the pole vault (8-6) and West Lafayette’s Michelle Bower was seventh in the long jump (16-33/4).
In the 4A-5A boys meet, Lafayette Jeff’s 800 relay team of Matt Johnson, Demarques Jones, Darian Green and Carl McQuay finished fifth in 1:33.16. Johnson also took sixth in the 55 meter dash in 6.50.
North Montgomery’s Dakota Ramey led the area contingent in the 1A-3A boys meet, finishing second in the shot put at 54-5. Southmont’s 800 relay team of Devon Burton, Dan Barrett, Drake Cooksey and Jake Richardson took third (1:35.21), while West Lafayette’s squad of Brandon Watt, William Mbongo, Ethan Watt and Maurice Woodard finished eighth (1:37.20).
Benton Central’s Henry Fisher tied for fourth with six other competitors in the high jump (6-0). Southmont’s 1,600 relay team of Burton, Barrett, Richardson and Elijah Simms finished sixth (3:38.40).
