West High tennis player David DiLeo advanced to the Class 2A state tournament singles semifinals with a pair of wins Friday at Veteran’s Memorial Tennis Center in Cedar Rapids.
The doubles team of Kyle Appel and Blake Oetting also advanced to the semifinals with a pair of wins.
DiLeo beat Sam Rice of Southeast Polk 6-0, 6-0 in the first round, and topped Andy Mong of Cedar Falls 6-0, 6-3 in the second round. DiLeo will face top-seeded Brady Anderson of Linn-Mar in the quarterfinals at 10 a.m. today.
Appel and Oetting beat West Des Moines Dowling’s Pitsor and Triplett 6-2, 6-0 in the first round, and topped Clinton’s Kurse and Schroeder 6-4, 6-2 in the second round. The second-seeded West team will face Blades and Hoyt of Cedar Rapids Washington in the quarterfinals at 10 a.m. today.
West’s other doubles team of Adam Dellos and Trent Schneider beat Waukee’s Kuyper and Sylvester 7-5, 6-0 in the first round, but lost to top-seeded Qin and Pitcher of Ames 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 in the second round.
