Grade: Senior
Position: Goalkeeper
Height: 5-foot-8

Athletic achievement:She recorded eight shutouts with a .769 save percentage this past season, leading the Cougars (10-11-1) to the Class AAA, Region 3 semifinals. A 2012 All-American selection by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, Newhouse was the 2012 West Virginia Soccer Coaches Association’s Class AAA Player of the Year and a three-time First Team All-State honoree. She concluded her prep soccer career with 30 shutouts.

Academic excellence: Newhouse has maintained a 3.85 weighted GPA.

Exemplary character: She has volunteered locally mowing lawns and shoveling snow for the elderly, at an animal shelter, as a youth basketball coach and on behalf of the Salvation Army.


“Michelle Newhouse was the best player I saw in 2012,” said Mike Shrewsbury, head coach of Poca (W.Va.). “I believe she has the potential to be very good at the next level. When surrounded by better players she will excel. She would have made any team in West Virginia a better team with her presence in goal.”

THE FUTURE: Newhouse will attend West Virginia.
