West's Handy earns top FVA honor


State qualifiers Logan Handy and Wyatt Stickney each earned spots on the all-Fox Valley Association golf first team it was announced by the conference.

Handy garnered top honors in being named Player of the year in the league, edging out Neenah’s Sam Galloway.

The rest of the first team consisted of Erik Thulien of Appleton East, Mitchell Wittmann of Kaukauna and Mitch Cardinal of Fond du Lac.

Oshkosh North also had of players honored as Paul Christman was named on the second team and Nick Bauer was an honorable mention selection.

Trailways Conference

Lourdes Academy senior David Grunsted was the North Division Player of the Year in the conference after finishing with the best stroke average during the season.

Grunsted was one of three Knights honored on the all-conference list released by the conference.

Brady Schneider and Nathaniel Jackson were named to the six-member first team for Lourdes.

The rest of the squad consisted of Josh Denk of Markesan, Kyle McCartney of Princeton/Green Lake and Logan Ganz of Central Wisconsin Christian.

Flyway Conference

Omro fell short of landing any players on the all-conference teams.

Senior Nate Strigenz of St. Mary’s Springs and freshman Chris Colla of Winnebago Lutheran were the co-Players of the Year.

The rest of the first team consisted of all Ledgers in Brady Sarauer, Sean Ahern and Patrick Treichel.

Eastern Valley

Senior Drew Dretske of conference champion Berlin earned Player of the Year honors in the conference, based on the results from the league’s conference tournament at Thornberry Creek.

The conference principles voted to have the EVC Tournament determine the all-conference teams this season because of the weather issues this spring, which prevented teams from playing equal schedules.

Dretske was joined on the first team by teammate Michael Falk as well as Michael Lueptow and Ross Shononey of Ripon and Joey Rezner of Xavier.

Berlin also landed Alec Huggins and Sam Marks on the second team, while Ripon’s Michael Birschbach earned third-team honors.
