Isaiah Briscoe, who played at St. Benedict’s Prep (Newark, N.J.) last season, was a last-second jump shot away from leading the Gray Bees to a national title in April, and the sting from that loss has made him even more focused on dominating than usual. That led to a scoring barrage this AAU season that resulted in Briscoe finishing third in scoring (21.1 points per game) in the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League. That kind of output has everyone from Florida to Arizona to Kentucky, and many more, giving chase. Briscoe, a five-star sophomore, has agreed to give USA TODAY HSS exclusive access into his world by chronicling everything from intimate details about his recruitment to his everyday life in a blog.
What’s up world!
It’s your boy Boogie and I’m back to bring you guys my latest blog here at USA Today HSS!
Last time I blogged I was headed into another session at EYBL and now the EYBL is over. We definitely didn’t finish too strong. We went 0-5 in the last session in Minnesota because we were missing a lot of key players.
Don’t get me wrong, we played hard but when you’re missing that much from a team in a league as talented as the EYBL it’s tough to win games. We didn’t make the Peach Jam and of course I hate that. I really wanted to play in it because I only like to play against the best competition, but I’ll learn from it and keep working.
I feel like I did pretty well scoring and rebounding and getting my teammates involved but, at the end of the day, we didn’t win games. So I take things like that personally. I hate to lose.
I’m headed to the NBA Top 100 Camp on Thursday so that should be cool. After that I’ll be going to the Deron Williams Camp and then I’ll go to LeBron James Camp. I’m looking forward to that of course.
I just think it’ll give me a chance to work on my game and improve on everything that I’m working toward.
As far as my recruitment that’s going pretty good.
On Saturday at midnight college coaches can finally start calling us. We had to call them before now because of the rules so I’m expecting a lot of calls. That’ll be interesting just to see how different it is to hear from the coaches on a more regular basis.
I recently got offers from UCLA, Indiana, Michigan, Florida State and Ohio State.
It’s an honor because they’re all big time programs and they’ve had some success recently. I like what they’re doing out there at UCLA, Florida State is in the ACC and I like that program, Ohio State has been on me since the eighth grade, Indiana is always strong and I love what Michigan did with Trey Burke this year. Just the freedom his coach gave him is the kind of freedom I want. That’s a big plus for them.
I’ve talked to other schools in the last few weeks like Kentucky; I talked to Coach O (Orlando Antigua) last week. I’m sure I’ll be talking to more schools starting Saturday so we’ll see how everything goes then.
I’m a little different than most players though. I’m not sitting around waiting for a particular school to make an offer. I have great schools on me now and if I don’t get another offer I’m fine. I would love for other schools to jump in, but if they don’t it’s OK. It’s not the end of the world. I’m grateful for what I’ve got. That’s just how I am. I’m just keeping everything open at this point.
OK switching gears for a minute, I want to talk about why I think it’s important for ball players to be well groomed. Everybody wants to be elite, but you’ve got to look elite too!
That’s why I think it’s important to get regular pedicures and manicures.
Ya know; you’ve gotta take care of yourself and this is a great way to do it. Maybe on a Sunday afternoon when you’re just relaxing you just go out to the nail salon and get the massage on your feet and hands and you walk out feeling like a new man!
You can still be manly and do this. I’m as manly as they come and I’m not ashamed to say I love it!
OK guys I’m gonna finish up our after-prom festivities and get ready to head off to NBA Camp, but you know I definitely appreciate you guys reading.
I’ll be back soon to give y’all all the details on the coaches who hit me up and everything.
Fellas go get those pedicures and manicures! And shoutout to my big brother Kashif Pratt!
I’ll holla later.
