The Ultimate Athlete competition is underway. The finalists have been selected by a panel formed by USA TODAY High School Sports. The top 100 submissions have been narrowed down and have been placed into 8 regions.
About the contest:
Fans and athletes were asked to submit someone who they think is the Ultimate Athlete. This athlete could be someone that excels in all things athletitc, someone who has battled adversity, or someone that did something unforgettable in a game. There will be a total of three rounds: regional, semifinal, and final. The top two vote getters from each region will advance to the semifinal as well as 16 wildcard spots. The wildcard spots are the next top vote getters no matter what region.
The contest officially kicks off on Monday November 26th at 12 pm ET.
The 100 contestants will be divided into 8 regions by their last name. For example, if the first letter of your last name is between A-C you would be in the Asics Gel-Nimbus 15 Region (Region 1).
There will be a total of three rounds. Thirty-two contestants will advance to the semifinal round; the 2 leading vote getters in each round and 16 wild card spots. The wild card spots will be the next top vote getters no matter what region. Ultimate Athlete Background:
Over the last eight months USA TODAY High School Sports and Asics have teamed up to try and find out the long and heated debate of who is the Ultimate Athlete and what sport produces the Ultimate Athlete. Our writers have featured a wide variety of content in building up to the contest. We featured top high school athletes from every sport and top professional athletes to get their take. Everyone had a strong opinion and is very passionate but the jury is still out.
