On Sunday the WIAA released its official brackets for this year’s Boys State Basketball Tournament, with Roncalli receiving the highest seed out of the eight Manitowoc County programs.
Roncalli (16-4, 13-3 Olympian Conference) was awarded the No. 2 seed in Division 3, meaning it will face the winner of the No. 10 Southern Door (12-8, 10-3 Packerland Conference) at No. 7 Luxemburg-Casco (9-11, 7-8 Bay Conference) matchup on Feb. 22. The Jets did not face either team during the season.
Also earning a first-round bye in Division 3 was No. 4 Two Rivers (12-7, 6-5 Eastern Wisconsin Conference). The Raiders will face the winner of the No. 12 New Holstein (2-15, 2-10 EWC) at No. 5 Chilton (14-6, 11-5 OC) matchup on Feb. 22.
Two Rivers has not played Chilton this season but beat New Holstein 66-55 in an early December home win and 99-55 in a late January road win.
Valders (10-10, 8-8 OC) and Kiel (6-13, 3-8 EWC) each earned No. 9 seeds and first-round road games, as the Vikings will take on No. 8 Sturgeon Bay (12-8, 10-3 PC) while the Raiders are at No. 8 North Fond du Lac (8-12, 3-9 Flyway Conference). Both games will be on Feb. 19 with the teams having not faced each other this season.
Manitowoc Lincoln (8-12, 6-8 Fox River Classic Conference) received a No. 6 seed as the area’s lone Division 1 school and it will be at No. 3 Bay Port (12-8, 10-4 FRCC) on Feb. 22. The Ships topped the Pirates 51-42 in January, at Bay Port, in the pair’s only meeting this season.
Division 4 will feature the only matchup of two local teams as No. 5 Manitowoc Lutheran (9-11, 7-9 OC) will host No. 12 Mishicot (1-19, 1-15 OC) on Feb. 19. The Lancers swept the season series, beating the Indians 56-42 in a December home win and 62-55 in a late January road win.
Reedsville (6-14, 4-12 OC), the other area Division 4 school, was given a No. 6 seed and will host No. 11 Manawa (5-15, 1-12 Central Wisconsin Eight Conference) on Feb. 19. The pair have not faced each other this season.
All games are scheduled to tip off at 7 p.m.
