WIAA boys golf regionals: Falls too strong for competition at The Bull

Playing at home for a WIAA Division 2 boys golf regional, Sheboygan Falls took advantage of the familiar surroundings.

Matt Andrews led the field with a 77 to earn medalist honors, followed by teammates Matt Bachmann (80), Connor Clark (81) and Chris Bachmann (82) as the Falcons took the top four spots Monday at The Bull.

Oostburg took second, paced by Raymond Kolocek’s 86, which was good for seventh place individually. Josh Smies shot an 88, Joe Smies carded a 92 and Lukas Meerdink shot a 100.

Cedar Grove-Belgium finished third after winning a tiebreaker with Kewaskum.

Isaiah Bauer led the Rockets with an 89, followed by Justin Obbink (94), Stuart Friberg (94) and Will DeBleay (98).

Howards Grove’s Garrett Jahnke advanced as an individual after taking sixth with an 84.

The top four teams and the top four individuals not on one of those teams advanced to next Tuesday’s sectional at Badger Creek.

Central Lakeshore Conference foes Ozaukee and Random Lake fought it out for the last team spot, with the Warriors coming in just four shots ahead of the Rams to claim the fourth and final spot at sectionals Tuesday at Blackwolf Run.

Ozaukee was led by Austin Bares, who tied for fourth individually with an 80. After going out in 41, Bares shot a 39 — the third-best score of the day — on the back nine.

Random’s Jake Schwan claimed the first of four individual berths to sectionals by taking eighth with an 87.

The top four teams and top four individuals not on one of those teams qualified for the sectional meet.
