WIAA football: Reedsville downed in overtime

Ryan Schwahn’s 40-yard interception return for a touchdown gave the visiting No. 6 Reedsville football team a late 14-7 lead over No. 3 Ozaukee in the WIAA State Football Level 1 Division 6 playoff game on Friday. Unfortunately for the Panthers, the lead didn’t last.

Ozaukee (8-2) completed a third-and-10 pass with under a minute to go to set up the game-tying touchdown before winning in overtime 21-14.

“It was a tough game,” said Reedsville coach Aaron Fredrick. “We battled to take the lead thanks to a great defensive showing. We just fell short.”

Reedsville (7-3) trailed 7-6 entering halftime with Brock Gilsdorf scoring on a 65-yard scramble in the second quarter. The score remained the same until Schwahn’s pivotal pick-six put the Panthers on top following the two-point conversion, a pass to Cody Schamburek from Gilsdorf.

Gilsdorf finished the night carrying the ball 22 times for 138 yards while completing 3-of-8 passes for 55 yards. Schwahn also caught one pass for 28 yards to lead the Reedsville receivers.
