WIAA girls swimming: Area swimmers compete at sectionals

Manitowoc Lincoln’s Taylor Winkel was the area’s highest individual finisher, in any event, as she placed fifth in the 100 backstroke Saturday afternoon at WIAA Division 1 girls swimming sectional at Neenah High School.

Winkel was also a member of a Ships’ relay team made up of Breanna Ruffolo, Isabel Strazny, and Emma Waack, which finished sixth in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:57.76. It was the best finish turned in by an area relay team at the sectional.

Sammie Bonick of Brillion/Valders/Chilton placed 15th in the 100 freestyle.

The BVC relay squad for the 400 freestyle relay comprised of Bonick, Abby Vickman, Kristin Schneider, and Fiona Frederick took 11th in the event.

Lincoln finished 13th as a team while BVC placed 14th.

Host Neenah won the team title with a score of 324.

Winners of each sectional event appear at State along with those with the next 18 fastest times in each event from all sectionals.

Division 2 Plymouth sectional

The Kiel swimming team had squads finish in the top-10 in two of the three relays.

The Raiders took seventh in the 200 medley relay thanks to the efforts of Carly Ritger, Amber Kreis, Dana Fritsch, and Adrian Blaha, who turned in a combined time of 2:09.65.

Ritger and Kreis teamed up with Lauren Boos and Madison Bushke for a ninth-place showing in the 400 freestyle relay.

Individually, Bushke finished 12th in the 200 freestyle and Kreis took 12th in the 200 IM.

Kiel’s Brooke Iserloth finished seventh in the diving competition, which was held Friday.

Grace Crabb placed 23rd in the 100 breaststroke for Two Rivers/Roncalli.

The Raiders finished ninth as a team and Two Rivers/Roncalli took 14th.

Only the sectional champion qualifies for State automatically. The rest of the 16-competitor field in each event is added from best times at the sectionals around the state.
