She then rolled past Brookfield East junior Sadie Spahn (23-8) 6-3, 6-1 to advance to the Round of 16.

Next up for Budnik (29-4) is Whitefish Bay senior Lily Hayes (22-5), the No. 5 seed.

Budnik was the lone area player to compete and advance on Thursday.

Competing in the Division 1 doubles tournament, Ships sophomore Sydney Verbauwhede and senior Michaela Jagemann (19-12) fell 6-4, 6-4 to Homestead senior Kate Weitzer and sophomore Madeline Slicker(22-9).
