Kohler’s Audra Hoffmann earned a sixth-place finish in the WIAA Division 2 State Tennis Meet Saturday in Madison.
The Blue Bombers junior, who entered the tournament seeded fourth, started the day with a gritty come-from-behind win over The Prairie School’s Annie Zlevor. Zlevor won the match’s opening set 6-4, but Hoffmann rebounded to take 6-1 and 6-2 wins in the next two sets.
The win put Hoffmann in a fifth-place match against Kenosha St. Joseph’s Claire Czerwonka, who earned a 6-3, 6-1 win.
Hoffmann, who advanced to State the last two years, earned one of the top seeds after carrying a 25-5 record into the tournament. She picked up a 6-2, 6-1 win against her first opponent Friday before losing 6-4, 7-5 later in the day to the tournament’s eventual fourth-place finisher, Brookfield Academy’s Michelle Sikes.
Top-seeded Grace Larrain, a senior from Wausau’s Newman Catholic, won the championship after posting a 7-6 (6), 6-2 win over No. 2-seed Jenna Zimmermann of Racine St. Catherine’s.
