Sheboygan North/South sophomore gymnast Calie Kaiser took home a medal from the WIAA Division 1 State Individual Championships, held Friday night in Wisconsin Rapids.
Kaiser earned a medal on the balance beam, taking sixth with a 9.4. It was the lone event she competed in at State.
Senior Caitlin Jurk just missed out on several medals, competing in the all-around. The top six in each event earn hardware.
“There was really good competition and very good gymnastics,” Jurk said in a phone interview late Friday. “We had to compete against people that were level-10 elite gymnasts, and they were really outstanding. Just being there was an honor, because placing didn’t matter.”
Jurk, who won gold on the floor as a freshman and also took home two medals as a junior, finished seventh on the balance beam with a 9.333; took seventh on the vault with a 9.400; and was eighth on the floor exercise with a 9.233. She also took 21st on the uneven bars (8.067).
Sophomore Jenna Schaefer also competed on the uneven bars, finishing seventh with a 9.150.
Overall, Jurk took 13th in the all-around competition with a total of 36.033.
