The Winneconne football used a pair of interception returns for touchdowns to take the lead and then held on to beat River Valley 28-7 in a WIAA Division 4 Level 1 playoff game on Friday night.
Winneconned advances to Level 2, where it will host seventh-seeded Wautoma next weekend
Alex Ford returned one pick 40 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter and Zach Henderson added a 60-yard interception return in the third quarter that staked the sixth-seeded Wolves to a 21-0 lead.
River Valley answered with its lone touchdown, but Riley Kallas found Henderson for a 16-yard touchdown on a halfback option play in the fourth quarter to seal the win.
Ben Davis also added a touchdown run, while Mitchell Markert finished with 77 yards on 18 carries to lead Winneconne, which held third-seeded River Valley to just 86 yards and forced four turnovers.
