THE WINNER: Arike Ogunbowale

School: Divine Savior Holy Angels (Milwaukee, Wis.)
Grade: Sophomore
Position: Wing
Height: 5-foot-9

Athletic achievement: Ogunbowale averaged 20.4 points, 9.6 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 3.1 steals per game, leading the Dashers (21-4) to the Division 1 sectional semifinals. A returning Division 1 All-State first team selection as named by the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association, Ogunbowale shot 53 percent from the field, 33 percent from 3-point range and 65 percent from the free throw line.

Academic excellence: Ogunbowale has maintained a 3.49 GPA and has served in student government.

Exemplary character: A member of her school’s Sister of Culture Club, she has volunteered at a nursing home, as a Sunday School teacher and on behalf of her church.

“She impacts the game in every conceivable area: scoring, passing, rebounding and defense,” said Dan Wandrey, head coach of rival Brookfield Central (Brookfield, Wis.). “Her ball-handling ability makes her team essentially un-press-able. In the half-court, she can score off the dribble, in the post, shoot the jumper and create for her teammates. As a point guard, she was one of the best rebounders in our conference.”

THE FUTURE: Ogunbowale will be a junior next year.
