The Winneconne Wolves girls soccer team had been on an incredible undefeated run in the Eastern Valley Conference this season.
Unfortunately, the ran into the other EVC team on that same run.
The Wolves fell for the first time this season to the Xavier Hawks 2-0, ending their unbeaten streak and allowing the Hawks to take the Eastern Valley crown on Wednesday in Winneconne.
“We just had our had our first loss against a good team,” Winneconne coach Luis Sayavedra said.
Xavier, the No. 3-ranked team in Division 2, jumped out to their 2-0 lead in the first half on goals from Fallon Peplinski and Anna Sobal.
The Wolves scrambled but couldn’t come up with the equalizers against Xavier keeper Kate Parks, who had six saves, that they needed to beat the Hawks.
Taylor Tomczyk made seven saves for the Wolves in the loss.
Winneconne finishes the season 13-1-1 and 7-1 in the Eastern Valley Conference.
Now the Wolves turn their attention to the WIAA Tournament, where they should be a high seed.
“We will back to work tomorrow with a new goal of advancing as far as we can in the playoffs,” Sayavedra said.
