Lauren McHugh, captain of the Woodmont High lacrosse team the past two seasons, has signed a national letter of intent to continue her career at Tennessee Wesleyan College.
McHugh considered several small colleges in the area before deciding on Tennessee Wesleyan, an NAIA school that plays in the Appalachian Athletic Conference and is coached by former J.L. Mann and Presbyterian College star Jenna Handshoe.
McHugh, who signed on her 18th birthday in front of her parents, coaches and teammates, was Woodmont’s MVP as a junior. She was the Wildcats’ second-leading scorer and a first-team All-Greenville County selection.
“Lauren plays every game with passion, determination and intensity,” Woodmont coach Kaitlynn Wright said. “She’s an incredible leader who motivates her team and pushes them to do better every day. We wish her the best of luck next year.”
McHugh, who has been playing for the Wildcats since her freshman year, also has been playing for the Carolina Revolution club team for three years and has served as its captain for two years.
