Genoa edged out rival Eastwood 173 1/2-164 1/2 to earn its second-ever league championship, taking first in Saturday’s Northern Buckeye Conference tournament at Woodmore High School.
The Comets placed 10 wrestlers in route to winning their first conference championship since 2003. Max Reeder (132 pounds), Drew Keenan (145) , Ryan Szymanski (160), and Jay Nino (220) led the way by claiming individual titles. Finishing as runner-up were Jake Fejes (152), and Cody Buckner (285), while placing third were Damian D’Emillio (103), Seth Morrison (126), Mike Snider (170), and Tyler Baird (182).
The host Wildcats were fourth at 111 1/2 points, behind Lake at 115. Evan Ulinski (106) and Thomas Schnittker each earned championships at their respective weight classes, Seth Gaghen (132), Dylan Young (182) and Spencer Linke (195) all placed second. Henry Flores was third at 220.
