THE WINNER: Kaylee Johnson
School: Natrona County (Casper, Wyo.)
Athletic achievement: Johnson averaged 18 points, 13.9 rebounds, 5.9 blocks, 3.0 assists and 2.3 steals per game, leading the Fillies (22-4) to the Class 4A semifinals. Also the 2011-12 Gatorade Wyoming Girls Basketball Player of the Year, Johnson led Class A in scoring, rebounding and blocked shots.
Academic excellence: Johnson has maintained a 4.0 GPA.
Exemplary character: She has volunteered locally on behalf of the Salvation Army and Kids Against Hunger in addition to assisting the elderly at a retirement home.
“Kaylee Johnson is a great teammate, very coachable and an extremely competitive kid,” said Natrona County head coach Douglas Diehl. “She has faced multiple junk defenses in an attempt to slow her down and she responded by distributing the ball and being a selfless teammate. Overall, she is a great kid and a coach’s dream.”
THE FUTURE: Johnson will be a senior next year.
