Yorktown picked up its fifth consecutive Hoosier Heritage Conference girls golf title Saturday at The Players Club. The Tigers had three of the tournament’s top four individual finishers en route to the crown, shooting a 324 to win easily.
The Tigers’ Rachel Johnson was the tournament’s individual medalist. She shot a 76. Morgan Clark took second, shooting a 79. Reece Malapit shot an 80 to finish in a tie for third, though she took fourth on the tiebreaker.
Kaylee Birtch shot an 89 to provide Yorktown’s fourth score, finishing ninth overall. Holly Haynes shot a 93.
“I was real happy,” said Yorktown coach Brian Hill, who was named conference coach of the year. “I think I had all of them play really well today.”
Clark started the day with a bogey, followed by a double bogey. She then recovered to post her 79.
“After that she settled down and played pretty good golf,” Hill said.
No. 8 Yorktown won the team title by 38 strokes. Second-place Mt. Vernon shot a 362. Delta finished fifth, shooting a 394. The Eagles were led by Jami Parsons, who shot a 93.
New Castle finished sixth with a 429. Bailey Brown shot a 103 to lead the Trojans.
Central sixth in NCC
Central shot a 426 to finish sixth in the North Central Conference tournament at The Edge Golf Club in Anderson, Ind. The Bearcats were led by Sydney Norris, who shot a 92. Amanda Brothers shot a 101.
“Both of them kept the ball in play,” Central coach Melinda Sheffield said. “That’s the best they’ve played all season. So hopefully we’re hitting the stride, ready for sectionals next weekend with the two of them.”
Marion won the conference title, shooting a 358. Anderson’s Morgan Nadaline shot a 74 to earn medalist honors.
