PICK’EM

GAME OF THE WEEK

(4) Galena at (2) Carson

The Senators (4-2, 1-0) took last weekend off, but still moved up in the Sierra League standings.

With Bishop Manogue’s Saturday win over Galena (6-1, 1-1), the league standings went into puzzle mode. Carson is the only one of the five Sierra teams without a league loss, but the Senators are also the only team with three league games still to play.

To win this one, Carson will look to emulate the defensive effort last week from Manogue, which intercepted three passes and held Galena to a season-low 20 points. The Grizzlies, though, are a dangerous team that can strike from anywhere on the field. They average 433 yards of offense per game.

Carson is unbeaten at home, with two wins over ranked teams (McQueen and Damonte Ranch). That, along with two weeks to prepare, gives the Senators the slightest of edges for this game.

The pick: Carson

BEST OF THE REST

Spanish Springs at (3) McQueen: Cougars will try to crack division’s top defense. McQueen

(1) Pershing County at (2) Yerington: Barring massive upset, Division III title will be decided in this game. Pershing County

(1) Reed at North Valleys: Brutal portion of schedule continues for Panthers. Reed

(3) Fernley at (1) Fallon: Rivalry game gives Vaqueros chance to tie for Division I-A lead. Fallon

(1) Virginia City at (4) Coleville: Muckers have played the better schedule to date. Virginia City
