GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) — Thousands of young gymnasts are in Grand Rapids this weekend for the fifth annual Gymnastics on the Grand competition.
2,000 athletes are taking park in the three-day competition at DeVos Place, which started Friday and continues through Sunday.
Members of Grand Rapids Gymnastics and Special Olympics Michigan are among the local competitors; they’re performing floor exercises, vaulting, balance beams, and the uneven bars.
2004 Olympic All-Around Champion Carly Patterson is also there, meeting with and inspiring young fans.
“It’s just fun to watch these athletes living out their dream and showing off their hard work, it’s kind of at the beginning of the season and they’ve been working so hard to get to these routines and now they can finally show everybody what they’ve been working on, so it’s always fun,” Patterson told WZZM.
Tickets are available at the DeVos Place box office.
