COACH OF THE YEAR
Claudie Thompson, Silver
Thompson’s Fighting Colts didn’t lose during the final month of the season. His team won 14 consecutive games (11 of them by double-digits) as it cruised through the Class 3A tournament and claimed its first state title since 1997.
SS Jared Mang (PLAYER OF THE YEAR) Los Alamos, Jr.
By the end of a season that culminated with the Hilltoppers reaching the Class 4A state quarterfinals, Mang — also a fantastic pitcher with an 8-2 record and 1.01 ERA — hit .605 with 35 runs scored and 44 RBI.
P Keenan Dodd, Hope Christian (Albuquerque), Sr.
Although the righty was just as spectacular at the plate (.472 average, eight home runs, 46 RBI, .910 slugging percentage, 20 stolen bases), Dodd’s dominance on the mound (7-1, 1.97 ERA, 88 strikeouts, two no-hitters) propelled the Huskies to the Class 3A state semifinals.
P Caleb Prentiss, Carlsbad, Sr.
The tall lefty baffled opposing hitters, striking out 82 of them, while surrendering just 39 hits, 20 walks and 13 earned runs in 66.1 innings. He compiled an 8-1 record.
