COACH OF THE YEAR: Reginald Samples, Skyline (Dallas)
Samples led Skyline into the Class 6A, Division I state semifinals. The Raiders entered the game 14-0, but fell to Allen 52-34 after starting quarterback Kylan ‘K.C.’ Johnson had to leave the game in the second quarter with an injury.


Murray never lost a game as Allen’s starting quarterback: He went 43-0 and won three state championships. A back-to-back Gatorade Player of the Year and a returning First Team All-USA selection, Murray threw for 316 yards and five touchdowns to lead his team to the 6A Division I state title as a senior.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Malik Jefferson, Poteet (Mesquite)
Jefferson won the Butkus Award, which is given to the top linebacker in the country. In the past three years, Jefferson generated 283 tackles, 48 tackles for loss, 30 sacks, 12 forced fumbles, eight fumble recoveries and 16 blocked kicks.
