INDIAN TRAIL, N.C. — A season that saw the Pirates reach the second round of the state playoffs before being upended by Southwestern Conference champions Rocky River. Head coach Greg Neuendorf is gone, and in his place is Zach Bevilacqua. Beviacqua is the program’s third coach in as many years.
The pirates program is used to success. Former head coach Blair Hardin coached the Pirates from 2008-2012 and went a combined 50-18, making it to back-to-back state title games in 2011 and 2012. His last year at Porter Ridge was the closest he and the team came to winning the ultimate prize, losing 39-38 to New Bern.
Bevilacqua needs to have his team ready, especially considering senior quarterback Isaiah Hicklin transferred to Sun Valley. That means the Pirates will turn to Tyrek Huntley, a junior who didn’t throw a single pass in 2013. Will Tyrek lead Porter Ridge back to the playoffs, or will the Pirates walk the Plank?
