Licking Valley’s Jake Martinez, Newark’s Dan Pastorius and Johnstown’s Clayton Bullard all won championships Saturday at the Sheridan Larry Remmert Invitational.
Martinez, a freshman, beat Sheridan’s Nathaniel Kehn in overtime at 113 pounds. Pastorius edged Amanda-Clearcreek’s Jordan Leasure, 7-6, to win at 182, while Bullard stopped Licking Valley’s previously undefeated Blake Owens, 12-9, for the 195-pound title. Bullard also won the Jay White Outstanding Wrestler award, and teammate Colton Hiles won the Dave Flowers Sportsmanship Award.
Amanda-Clearcreek won with 323 points. Sheridan was runnerup with 220. Licking Valley was fourth at 186½, Newark ninth with 95 and Johnstown 10th at 91.
In addition to Owens’ second-place finish for Valley, taking third were Bo Redman (122), Jacqui Vanmeter (285), Ethan Fout (152) and Drew Carson (170). Malique Elliot (120) and Garrett Robinson (160) placed fourth.
For Newark, grabbing fifth-place finishes were Braden Smith (170), Wade Stischok (152) and Henry Pham (126). Sixth-place went to Bryce Thomson (160) and Spencer Green (106).
Hayden Bullard placed second at 132 for Johnstown.
