The commitment announcements of football recruits are growing ever more intricate and complicated. Once again, University of Georgia commits are leading the way in commitment innovation (can we call it that?)
On Friday morning, Lakeside High superstar defensive back Rashad Roundtree pledged to attend the nearby University of Georgia over Ohio State, Alabama, Auburn and Clemson, among other top programs. Yet it wasn’t just Roundtree’s pledge for the Bulldogs that turned heads, it was how he made it. Rather than reveal his college choice by donning a new hat, he unzipped his sweatpants to reveal khaki chinos emblazoned with logos of UGA’s bulldog mascot, UGA.
This, clearly, was a rather dramatic choice, both in terms of method and school selection. Still, it’s probably not even the most unique way that a Georgia commit has announced his choice. On National Signing Day in 2011, top running back Isaiah Crowell pledged to join the Bulldogs class with a live bulldog puppy, complete with red sweater.
Maybe Roundtree will bring a pup along when he officially signs on with the ‘Dawgs on National Signing Day? It would go well with those pants …
